For this assignment you are urged to compare life in France during the French Revolution with life during the Napoleonic era. Please write a report (300 words minimum) on how Napoleon filfilled the ideals of the French Revolution and on how he betrayed the ideals of the French Revolution. You might mention the Reign of Terror in France and how that event destabilized and terrified urban French residents and how this might in turn might have influenced the Napoleonic code. Students might consider comparing two documents: A Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen (1789) with the Napoleonic Code(1804) to help with this assignment. This assignment needs to be posted by 8:00am Tuesday 23 October.

Reign of Terror Research Assignment

Begin this assignment by writing short biographies for Maximilien Robespierre, Georges Danton, and Jean-Paul Marat. Be sure to include the contributions or impacts that each made to French society during the 18th century. Finally, mention which of the three do you think was most influential in furthering the aims of "the terror", namely death of all those that supposedly continued to support the king. Be sure to justify your choice. Your post must be accompanied by an MLA works cited and might have to be posted in two separate posts if it exceeds to the word allowance set by blogger. All posts must be made before our first class next week.

Northern Ireland Assignment

Your task is to research and then write a report on the tensions between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland in the later part of the 20th century. Although the situation between the two groups has improved in the last 10 years, be sure to include why it has improved. Your report should, at a minimum, answer the following questions: 1. What has contributed to the fighting between Catholics and Protestants in Northern Ireland in the last 60 years? 2. What is the IRA, and how does it affect residents in Northern Ireland? 3. What do the British military do in Northern Ireland? Why have they been a precence there, and has that precence make the situation better or worse? 4. What was Bloody Sunday (1972) and how did it affect the situation in Northern Ireland.
